Bad Character In The Social Community

“Why do people display bad character over social media?” Social media grants people the freedom and power to type anything with little to no accountability. In other words, there is little to no tangible consequences for them typing ignorant, belittling, and horrible things. See, it’s what you do when you have freedom and power that reveals your true character. Here’s an analogy:

As a parent the general idea is to discipline your children and instill great qualities in them. While your child is around you in your presence, they will naturally conform to your parenting. Because of this, its not a good measuring rod to judge the effectiveness of your parenting. A better judgement happens when your children are no longer in your presence. This is when you truly see if your parenting has taken hold in your children. This is classic: “when the cat’s a way – the mice will play.”

So it’s the freedom of social media that allows us better to see a person’s character. It’s pretty easy to learn a person’s character on Facebook – just disagree with him/her or post something that he/she has an opposition, and you will find either understanding or ignorance. When a person gets power, money and popularity, he/she does’t change, he/she simply has a greater means to be more of who he/she is on the inside. What kind of people are we building?
